MORTADELLE PISTACHEE
The Product
Distinctive cheese from the Jura Mountains recognizable by its dark ash line through the center. Semi-soft with subtle, earthy flavors and creamy texture.
Origin & Terroir
Produced in the Franche-Comté region (Jura and Doubs departments). The ash line is a vestige of old practices when cheesemakers protected morning milk with ash before adding evening milk.
How to Enjoy
Excellent on cheese boards, melted in sandwiches, or in traditional Franc-Comtois dishes. Pairs with Jura wines (especially Arbois or Côtes du Jura), light reds, or beer. The mild flavor makes it approachable for cheese newcomers.
Did You Know?
The black line is now purely decorative - originally it was vegetable ash protecting the morning curd. Modern Morbier uses activated charcoal. The cheese is named after the village of Morbier. It has PGI protection since 2000.
